Dr. Gama grew up in Indiana, where he attended Purdue University. Initially studying engineering, Dr. Gama found that he preferred life sciences and decided to pursue medicine. His training includes a medical doctorate degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, residency training in anesthesiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and fellowship training in Interventional Pain from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. Gama specializes in interventional pain management, utilizing the latest advancements in technology. These include vertebroplasty, spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglia stimulation, and nerve blocks for chronic pain.
In his spare time, you can find him surfing the bore tide, kiteboarding at Turnagain arm, or out hiking and biking all around Alaska. He enjoys going on adventures with his wife and visiting his friends in the lower 48 and around the world.
Dr. Alfred Lonser, M.D. has a background in Engineering. He obtained a Medical Degree from Loma Linda University in 1998. He then went to the University of Virginia for a surgery residency before transitioning into Anesthesia. After successfully completing the Residency and Board requirements he and his family moved to Anchorage in 2002, where he was an anesthesiologist for Providence Hospital for 5 years. Since then Alaska has remained in his blood. He left Alaska for two years to complete a Pain Management fellowship at UCLA and then worked for one year in Nebraska before returning to Anchorage.
He enjoys pain management and specializes in interventional treatment. He provides expertise in spinal cord stimulator implantation, intrathecal pump implantation and vertebroplasty as well as the standard injection related treatments including epidural, facet, and selective nerve blocks.
Board-certified gastroenterologist Ajay Pabby, MD, MPH, strives to provide patients in Anchorage, Alaska, with the highest standard of care. He offers a full range of gastroenterology services as part of the team at Pioneer GI Clinic.
Dr. Pabby completed his residency training at the Boston Medical Center and a fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He also holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a Research Fellow in Colon Cancer Prevention and Control.
Previously, Dr. Pabby served as Director of Gastroenterology Services at Fort Eustis in Newport News, Virginia, for five years. His special interests lie in colon cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease, and specialized reflux studies (BRAVO pH testing). Dr. Pabby is an expert in EGD (upper endoscopy), colonoscopy, therapeutic procedures, biopsies, and capsule endoscopy. He manages biologic therapeutic treatments for inflammatory bowel disease in an integrative and collaborating manner by directing in-house infusion services for patients.
Nicolas Villa, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist on the team at Pioneer GI Clinic. He is dedicated to providing exceptional services to help restore a better quality of life to patients in Anchorage, Alaska.
Dr. Villa completed his residency and fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and received the McIntosh Award (given to the top resident). He went on to complete an advanced GI fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Villa sat on the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Quality Committee for a three-year term from 2015-2018.
At Pioneer GI Clinic, Dr. Villa's special interests are endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Barrett's esophagus ablation, endoluminal stenting, and endoscopic mucosal resection. His expertise in these advanced endoscopic techniques will allow a number of Alaska cancer patients to receive their care locally, for which they now travel to the lower 48. He also performs advanced colonoscopies and upper endoscopies and manages pancreatic and hepatobiliary diseases.
Board-certified gastroenterologist Miguel Ordonez, MD, is proud to provide patients in Anchorage, Alaska, with access to the latest in gastroenterology care at Pioneer GI Clinic.
Dr. Ordonez completed his residency training at the Weill Cornell Medical College program at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He went on to complete his fellowship at the University of South Alabama, where he received the American College of Gastroenterology President's Award. Dr. Ordonez served as Chairman for the Department of Medicine for Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Washington, from 2018-2020.
In addition to practicing at Pioneer Gi Clinic, Dr. Ordonez is a clinical instructor for the UW School of Medicine and the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University. His areas of expertise are in Barrett's esophagus ablation, endoluminal stenting, and endoscopic mucosal resection.
Dr. Ordonez enjoys taking care of patients with complex inflammatory bowel disease in a comprehensive team approach integrating holistic, nutritional, and advanced, cutting-edge medical treatments to include in-house infusion of biologic medications.
